New partnership to promote joint academic, research and cultural exchanges

On Monday, January 10, 2022, Abrar University (AU) – Somalia and Jigjiga University (JJU) – Ethiopia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for developing academic exchanges and cooperation in teaching, capacity building, research and cultural activities and programmes in the fields of mutual interest for a period of five years. In addition, the two universities will organize joint academic degree programmes, conferences and workshops on areas of mutual interests.

The MoU has been signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdulkadir Hassan-Kadle, Rector of Abrar Universty and Dr. Beshir Abdullahi Mahammoud, President of Jigjiga University.

The agreement between the two universities was one of the outcomes of the 1st One Health Conference for Horn of Africa Universities (3rd – 5th January 2022), held by Amoud University at Rays Hotel, Borama, Somaliland.

The new MoU with JJU represents an extension to AU’s existing international collaborations with leading academic institutions in the world for mutual enrichment as well as supporting each other in contributing to the African Union’s Agenda 2063: The Africa we want and United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
