Global One Health Day 2021 Event

Global One Health Day at Abrar University – 2021 educates participants on the urgent need for a One Health collaborative, multi-sectoral and transdisciplinary approaches towards solving today’s critical global health challenges. The event topics include Overview of One Health concept, capacity building for One Health approach, Antimicrobial Resistance, and past & ongoing One Health researches in Somalia at Abrar University.

One Health Day is a global campaign initiated in 2016 by the One Health Commission, the One Health Initiative and the One Health Platform to raise awareness about the One Health approach to complex health problems at the human-animal-environment interface

Dr. Ahmed Abdulkadir Hassan-Kadle, BVSc, MSc, PhD, Postdoc.
Dr. Ahmed Kadle is the Rector of Abrar University, and professor of epidemiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Abrar University, Somalia. He also co-founded and currently serves as chairman of Oog Dairy Factory. Dr. Kadle received his BVSc. and MSc. from the University of Bahri, Sudan, and his PhD and Postdoctorate from the Federal University of Parana in Brazil. His research activities focus on the epidemiology of vector and vector-borne diseases which have a Global One Health aspect.
 
Prof. Dr. Abdalla Mohamed Ibrahim, BVSc, MSc, PhD
Prof. Dr. Abdalla Ibrahim is currently working as Vice-Rector for Research and Development and Professor of Parasitology at Abrar University, Mogadishu, Somalia. He also serves as Director of Abrar Research and Training Centre at the same University. He received his PhD (2015) and MSc. (2006) from Sudan University of Science and Technology, Khartoum, Sudan. His BSc. (1998) was from the University of Khartoum, Khartoum, Sudan, where he was awarded the University Prize for the Best academic performance in Biochemistry for the Intermediate year. His school certificate (1992) was from Hantoob Higher Secondary School, the best historically national school in Sudan. He is an active member of the Sudanese Veterinary Association (SVA), Khartoum, Sudan, and the Professional Association of Sudanese Higher Education Academic Staff, Khartoum, Sudan. His research area focuses on Parasitology and Epidemiology where he published about 61 Journal and conference papers and submissions to the International Gene bank as well. Continuously learning for improvement in the above research areas, Dr. Ibrahim attended about 36 international and national training courses and workshops. Dr. Ibrahim supervised 10 published Thesis (7 MSc., 1 PhD and 2 Graduation Thesis).
 
Prof. Dr. Rafael Felipe da Costa Vieira, DVM, MSc, PhD
Prof. Dr. Rafael Vieira is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology of Vector-Borne Diseases and One Health in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), Brazil, Research Leader of the Vector-Borne Diseases Laboratory (VBDL – UFPR) and Affiliate of the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) at the Ohio State University, USA. Dr. Vieira’s research interests focus on Infectious Diseases with emphasis on Vector-Borne and Transboundary Zoonotic Diseases, and Global Health. Dr. Vieira also focuses on the molecular detection and characterization of hemotropic Mycoplasma species and the evaluation and validation of diagnostic tests for zoonotic infectious diseases.
 
Dr. Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed, DVM, MVPH
Dr. Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUSTECH) in 2010 and holds a Master of Veterinary Public Heath (MVPH) from University Putra Malaysia (UPM). He is a researcher and senior lecturer at Somali National University (SNU) in Mogadishu since 2016. Dr. Mohamed is a member of the Somali Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA) and the Somali One Health Program.  He has experience in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Development, Laboratory Biosafety/ Biosecurity, One Health Initiative and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). He is interested in infectious diseases at the animal-human-food interface. His research area mainly focuses on the theme of animal infectious diseases particularly zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance.
 
Dr. Farah Isse Mumin, DVM, MSc
Dr. Farah Mumin is a One Health researcher currently studying In Infection and Immunity at the University of Liverpool, UK. He did his master in veterinary vaccine production and quality control at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Farah is the current chairman of Puntland Livestock Professionals Association (PULPA) and former dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Red Sea University, Somalia. He is interested in surveillance of zoonotic diseases, understanding emerging infections and their prevention.
 
Dr. Aamir Muse Osman, BVM, MSc Student
Dr. Aamir Osman is an MSc student at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), Brazil. He received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Abrar University (AU), Somalia. Currently, he is an assistant lecturer in the College of Veterinary Medicine at AU and the head of the Laboratories at Abrar University, and his research has an emphasis on tick-borne diseases.
