About the SOHC2024
The Somali One Health Conference is a biennial conference organised by the Somali One Health Centre of Abrar University that is dedicated to expanding the One Health knowledge and actions in Somalia and beyond through state-of-the-art scientific initiatives, evidence-based policies, and working together with a common vision to accelerate efforts towards national development plans, the African Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The second biennial Somali One Health Conference will be held in Mogadishu, Somalia from 3-5 March 2024.
Conference Theme
This year’s conference theme is “Empowering One Health Workforce to Drive Positive Change for Somalia and the World”, aligned with the overarching quadripartite One Health Joint Plan of Action theory of change pathways to strengthen the capacity to address complex multidimensional health risks with more resilient health systems at the global, regional, and national level. In this light, strengthening One Health capacities becomes even more important, and policy and science dialogue around these topics is more crucial than ever to transform global health systems and boost One Health action.
Objectives of the Conference
- To provide a forum for sharing current research outputs and engaging in dialogue on fostering One Health actions and mobilising Somalia and the international community to accelerate the implementation of Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH) One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA) and other existing initiatives, while anchoring the dialogue in promoting local, national, multi-sector, multidisciplinary collaboration, learning, and exchange of knowledge, solutions, and technologies.
- To raise awareness of the One Health approach and its significance in improving the health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment, thereby contributing to global health security and sustainable economic development.
- To highlight the work that has been done and recognise what remains to be done by the government, universities, international organisations, corporates, civil society, and religious scholars to advance One Health meaningfully.
- To generate policy briefs that will strengthen the capacity of governments and development partners to design and implement policies and programmes that significantly reduce the risk and impact of health threats at the human-animal-plant-environment interface.
