One Health in Somalia<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Ahmed A. Hassan-Kadle<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Ahmed Kadle Dr. Ahmed Kadle is the Rector of Abrar University, and professor of epidemiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Abrar University, Somalia. He also co-founded and currently serves as chairman of Oog Dairy Factory. He worked as a Veterinarian with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Somalia to strengthen Somali communities\u2019 resilience by keeping their livestock healthy and productive. Dr. Kadle supports several communities and research organizations on a freelance basis, all of them working on issues related to livestock development. Vector-Borne Diseases: A One Health Approach<\/strong><\/p>

Prof. Dr. Rafael F. C. Vieira<\/strong><\/p>

Prof. Dr. Rafael Vieira is currently an Associate Professor of Epidemiology of Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases and One Health at the Federal University of Paran\u00e1 (UFPR), Brazil. He is also the Research Leader of the Vector-Borne Diseases Laboratory at UFPR, and an affiliate of The Ohio State University Global One Health initiative. He is a DVM and received a Veterinary Residency degree in Laboratory Diagnostics from the Sao Paulo State University, a master\u2019s degree in Veterinary Sciences from the UFPR, and a PhD degree in Animal Sciences focusing on One Health aspects of Vector-Borne Diseases from the Londrina State University. Over the last 11 years his research has focused on zoonotic diseases, with emphasis in the epidemiology of vector-borne and transboundary infectious diseases, One Health, molecular detection, and characterization of hemotropic Mycoplasma<\/em> species and evaluation and validation of diagnostic tests for zoonotic infectious diseases. He has acted as the main advisor of postdoctoral, six PhDs, 12 masters, four veterinary residents, and 23 scientific initiation students. His research summary includes some 100 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 800 citations. His professional goal is to apply his background to approach global health issues at the human-animal-environment interface from a One Health perspective, with a special focus on vector-borne and zoonotic diseases. His plans include getting proposals funded to develop and expand capacity for a One Health approach in Sub-Saharan Africa and other low and middle-income countries.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Prof. Sabiha Essack is the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Antibiotic Resistance and One Health and Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).\u00a0 Professor Essack is Vice-Chair of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Antimicrobial Resistance (STAG-AMR), Senior Implementation Research Advisor at the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) in Denmark, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Joint Programming Initiative on AMR (JPIAMR) and member of the International Pharmacy Federation (FIP) AMR Commission.\u00a0 She further serves as expert consultant on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) to the WHO.\u00a0 Professor Essack is chairperson of the Global Respiratory Infection Partnership (GRIP), serves on the Advisory Board of the Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator (CARB-X) in the US, the Fleming Fund Expert Advisory Group in the UK, the Market Analysis Expert Advisory Group of the Global AMR Research and Development Hub in Germany and is a member of the Wellcome Trust Surveillance and Epidemiology of Drug-Resistant Infections Consortium (SEDRIC).\u00a0 She served as Vice-Chairperson of the South African Ministerial Advisory Committee on AMR at its inception, the International Pharmacy Federation Working Group on AMR, the South African Chapter of the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (GARP) and the South African Antibiotic Stewardship Programme (SAASP).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

One Health in Africa: Historical and Future Perspectives<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Irene Naigaga<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Naigaga is the Program Manager for Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN); an international multidisciplinary network of 19 universities leading change in developing a One Health Workforce in east, central and west Africa. Dr. Naigaga\u2019s roles involve coordination and provision of strategic and policy guidance to AFROHUN. She oversees operationalization of the network\u2019s strategic and business plans and promotion of strategic partnership engagement where she supports onboarding of new projects and partners. She also provides leadership and support to program management and capacity development on the One Health Workforce Next Generation project funded by USAID. Dr. Naigaga brings on board her passion to transform Africa and her vast experience spanning over 15 years in managing and implementing multistakeholder projects; and working on several international capacity building networks. Some of these networks include Higher Education Resource Services East Africa (HERS-East Africa); Sub-Saharan Africa Water Resource Network (SSAWRN) under the Regional Initiative for Science and Education (RISE); Training and Research in Aquatic and Environmental Health in Africa (TRAHESA), and the Africa One Health Network (AfoHNet). Dr. Naigaga continues to offer technical expertise to support One Health integration into regional and continental frameworks including the East African Community One Health Strategic Plan spearheaded by the GIZ Pandemic Preparedness Project; ECOWAS\u2019s regional One Health Agenda steered by the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO); Africa CDC Framework for One Health Practice in National Public Health Institutes; and the Animal Health Strategy for Africa led by AU-IBAR. With her veterinary and wildlife background, she holds a PhD in Ichthyology of Rhodes University, South Africa, where she specialized in aquatic ecosystem health. Success and challenges of One Health Approach in Ethiopia<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Abdikadir<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Ibrahim is an assistant professor in epidemiology. He has a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Basel, Switzerland and has rich experiences in teaching, research, and community engagement in the areas of zoonosis, food safety and AMR. His main area of research interest is on vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, food safety and One Health policy and practices. He has depth knowledge in One Health concept, IHR-monitoring and evaluation framework tools, multi-sectoral One Health coordination mechanism and national bridging workshop.
